Billy Bates brought us a set of his original songs.
Billy felt right at home surrounded by his neighbours and brought
a style of music new to Castlemilk Music Festival and new to the
world. Odd guitar tunings mixed with chants and lyrics and with Roy
Shearer on percussion took the audience on a tour of the Southern
Mediterranean and North Africa. Like that region, Billy was hot.

| Twin Atlantic roared ashore on a wave of sound. Young and raw,
their music reflected the rock style of our time. Sam McTrusty on
guitar, Ross McNae on bass and Steff Le Batteur, his real name, on
drums, rocked the roof and gave the audience a taste of contemporary
rock. This was only their second gig but are bound to hit Glasgow
soon in a tsunami of sound. |

| Alex Hastie was a bonus addition to Friday night's line up and
a baptism of fire for him. 14 year old Alex attends St. Margaret
Mary's Secondary School in Castlemilk and he brought another genre
of music to the Festival - classical guitar. Alex has only being
playing for three years, however, his dexterity up and down the fretboard
did not reflect that. He will go on to better things. |
